PARK CITY, Kan.— The Montreat College men's wrestling team saw its time at the 2026 NAIA Men's Wrestling Championships come to an end on Friday as
Boedi Kirkland picked up his second loss of the tournament. Following
Kane Bryson's 1-2 showing and Kirkland's 2-2 effort, the Cavaliers concluded the event with eight points, good for 38
th out of 54 scoring programs.
A native of Catawba, N.C., Kirkland wrestled just once on Friday afternoon. Competing as the 21
st seed in the 149-lb weight class, Kirkland dropped a narrow 8-6 decision to the bracket's 14
th-seeded participant. After a scoreless first period, Kirkland's opponent jumped out to a 6-0 lead with a pair of nearfalls. The freshman got on the board with a reversal right before the second round finished, but he fell behind 7-2 early in the third period due to an escape. A point via stalling and a late takedown got Kirkland within one, but the additional riding time sealed his fate.
Thanks to Kirkland's and Bryson's performances, the 2025-26 season marked the first time in program history in which the Montreat College men's wrestling team saw multiple student-athletes secure at least one triumph during the same national championships. Kirkland also matched the program record for the most wins at a single national tournament with two.
