Women’s wrestling spends Sunday competing in Tennessee

BRISTOL, Tenn.— The Montreat College women's wrestling team spent Sunday competing in Bristol, Tenn. at the Tornado Open, hosted by King University. Of the 14 Cavaliers who participated in the event, six garnered placements and two secured runner-up finishes in their respective weight classes.

Morgan Repasky achieved the most wins and matched the best placement among the Cavs in action. Scrapping in the 103-lb weight class, the Marion, N.C. native won four of her five bouts to end as the bracket's runner-up. Three of her four victories included beating NCAA opposition. While her lone loss came via pin against the tournament champion, Repasky managed to tally two 10-0 tech falls, a pin and a forfeit in her favor.

Just one weight class higher, Sirenity Davis followed Repasky's lead to a second-place finish of her own. The freshman went 2-1 overall, dropping her initial matchup to the NCAA's No. 8-ranked wrestler at 110. Davis responded well, though, notching a forfeit and a 65-second pin to conclude as runner-up.

A 3-1 record carried Audrey Gribble to third place in the 180-lb weight class. Like Davis, Gribble suffered an early defeat before rattling off a series of triumphs. Her initial victory came via the way of a 10-2 decision, and her final two wins featured impressive falls. Gribble claimed third overall by pinning an NCAA wrestler in her final action of the day.

Sheyla Ochoa Salgado wrapped up her afternoon in the 117-lb weight class with a third-place finish. The Lake Worth, Fla. native won half of her four bouts, and both victories occurred versus NCAA foes. Ochoa Salgado alternated wins and losses in Bristol, with the triumphs including a 6-4 decision and a 10-0 tech fall.

Two Cavaliers left King with fourth-place honors. At 145, Uriah Peters-Gutierrez registered a pair of pins, one of which came against an NCAA wrestler, to go 2-2 overall. Meanwhile, Ashlyn Eggers placed despite dropping a 10-0 tech fall prior to a pair of medical forfeits.

Six other Montreat wrestlers collected at least one win on Sunday. Daniela Espinal and Shay Potter went 2-2 at 124 and 180, respectively. Annastasia Skoda, Izzy Campbell, Nicole Lewis and Daniella Jenkins recorded 1-2 efforts during their tournament runs over the weekend.
