Women’s cross country rated 12th nationally

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— According to a release from the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) on Thursday, the Montreat College women's cross country team is moving two positions in the latest NAIA Women's Cross Country Coaches' Top 25. After landing at No. 10 in the preseason edition of the ratings, the Cavaliers shifted two spots to 12th overall.

Appearing in the national ratings for the 33rd consecutive instance, the Cavs tallied 320 points in the voting process. Montreat landed 25 points shy of No. 11 Grace (Ind.) but stood 23 points ahead of 13th-rated Cornerstone (Mich.).

Since the previous ratings release in late August, the Cavaliers have impressed at a pair of NCAA Division I meets. On Aug. 29, Montreat concluded seventh out of 11 teams at the Elon Opener. Just two weeks later, the Cavs wrapped up the Queen City Invite in ninth out of 20 squads. Heather Murphy broke her own school 5k record time in Charlotte, N.C., and her 17:15.79 showing proved good enough for a trio of awards: Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, NAIA Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week and United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NAIA Women's Athlete of the Week.
