BERGEN, Norway— Montreat College student-athlete
Heather Murphy competed on Friday at day two of the European Athletics U23 Championships in Bergen, Norway. Running in the women's 10k, Murphy represented her home country of Ireland with a 19
th-place showing.
"I was deeply honored to represent my country," Murphy shared. "It's been my lifelong ambition, and I hope to get more opportunities in the future."
Twenty-nine athletes participated in Friday's 10k. Murphy registered a time of 35:07.29, besting the 20
th-place finisher by nearly 13 seconds. Fellow Irish athlete Anika Thompson won the event with a 32:31.47 showing. Ireland ultimately captured the 14
th-most medals of the championships with five, while Germany won the gold medal count and team medal count with five and 26, respectively.

Occurring every two years, the European Athletics U23 Championships featured a total of 44 events from July 17-20 in Bergen, Norway. The next edition of the European Athletics U23 Championships is slated for July 22-25, 2027 in Bydgoszcz, Poland.
