SALISBURY, N.C.— Montreat's women's lacrosse squad faced off against the Catawba College Indians on Tuesday. The Indians won the contest by a score of 25-0.
In the opening quarter, the Cavaliers couldn't score and gave up 10 goals in the frame. Montreat (0-11) did not have a shot, while Catawba (6-7) had 16 shots, 12 of them on target.
At the break, Montreat trailed 15-0 without attempting a shot. Goalie
Tayah Quinn tallied five saves in the first half. The Cavaliers won three draw controls, and Catawba won 12. Montreat committed seven fouls and registered two caused turnovers in the opening half.
The third quarter saw six more goals netted by the Indians. Montreat was still shotless through three quarters.
In the concluding frame, Montreat had three shots, all on goal.
Ruthann Stout had two and
Marley Smith had the other.
Individually,
Adara Vouriotis led the Cavs with two ground balls. Stout,
Anna White and
Ailani Soto had one apiece. Defensively, Quinn had seven saves for Montreat.
The Cavaliers won six draw controls and collected seven ground balls. They turned it over 19 times to Catawba's 11. The Indians secured 21 draw controls and 17 ground balls in the contest.
The Cavaliers will host the No. 4 University of the Cumberlands Patriots for their Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) season finale on Friday. The opening draw control is slated for 5 p.m.
