MARIETTA, Ga.— Montreat's men's lacrosse team visited the (RV) Life University Running Eagles in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup on Saturday. The Cavs are still searching for their first win of the year as they lost the league showdown, 21-5.
Right away in the first, Life (2-4, 2-3 AAC) scored five goals; however, the Cavs scored two in the frame.
Grayson Scott got things underway with a goal to tie the game at one apiece. Later in the quarter, Scott put another point on the board with his second goal of the game.
Landon LaGro assisted on Scott's second effort.
Montreat (0-9, 0-4 AAC) gave up eight goals in the second quarter while scoring none itself. The Cavs had just two shots on goal in the quarter and won a single faceoff. Goalie
Jay Chance had nine saves in the frame alone, the most by any goalie in a quarter for the entire game. At the half, Montreat trailed, 13-2.
The Cavs scored their other three goals in the third quarter.
Eli King had two of them. Scott assisted the first, and LaGro assisted the second.
Gavin Mottram also found the net in the period. Mottram's effort was assisted by Scott for his second helper of the frame. Montreat surrendered eight goals in the entire second half. The Cavaliers fell by a score of 21-5 after 60 minutes of play.
Scott and King each had two goals in the conference matchup. Scott also tallied two assists, as did LaGro. Chance had 18 saves in the contest.
Andrew Preston led Montreat with three caused turnovers.
Aidan Simpson had the most ground balls in the game for the Cavs with three.
As a team, Montreat attempted 25 shots, 17 of which were on target. The Cavs matched the Running Eagles with 14 turnovers altogether. Life picked up 42 ground balls while Montreat captured 18. The Cavs won just five faceoffs while Life had 25.
The Cavaliers will host the No. 2-ranked Webber International University Warriors on Friday in another AAC clash. The opening faceoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
