WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— Montreat's women's track & field team competed at the Mondo College Invitational on Saturday. While there were no team scores, the Cavs came away with a win in the 600m race.
On the day, Montreat participated in 11 events. It posted 22 entries, with two of those being debut performances. The Cavaliers set one school record and four new personal bests.
The highlight of the day came in the 600m race where
Kaylene Manternach won the event with a time of 1:40.63. With her time, Manternach set a new school record by nearly a half-second. She was ahead of second place in the race by over four seconds. Two other Cavaliers competed in the event. Juniors
Anna Baugh and
Jasmine Hernandez finished back-to-back with times of 1:49.63 and 1:49.81, good enough for sixth and seventh out of 22 runners.
In the long jump,
Jessica Gakeri put up efforts good enough to finish in fifth (5.23m). Teammate
Lydia Norman (15
th; 4.75m) competed in the long jump as well but found more success in the triple jump where she finished ninth of 18 competitors (10.25m).
The 200m held four Cav runners.
Emma Barnes placed seventh out of a total of 69 competitors in the event. Barnes clocked a 26.82, just 0.19 seconds off her personal best.

The next action for the women's track & field team will be at the Brant Tolsma Invitational held in Lynchburg, Va. on Jan. 23-25.
