Track & Field Splits Squads at Two Meets

LYNCHBURG, Va.— In an attempt to qualify additional athletes for the national championships, the Montreat men's and women's track & field teams sent contingents to the Hill City Twilight hosted by the University of Lynchburg on Friday as well as the Aggie Invitational at North Carolina A&T State University on Friday and Saturday as the teams recently added both meets to their schedules.

The women's 4x800m relay team stole the show at the Hill City Twilight, recording an NAIA "A" standard time and crushing the school record by nearly six seconds. The squad of Dylan Garcia, Kilia Hasty, Yessenia Castellanos and Emily Standifer combined to run 9:16.46, good enough to win the event out of two entries.

Ethan Stamey also registered a top-5 result at the meet, racing to fourth place in the men's 5000m event. Stamey crossed in 15:23.46 to secure his placement out of 10 athletes, while Caleb Potter (15:56.81) ended sixth.

On Friday at the Aggie Invitational, Emma Barnes broke the school record in the women's 200m dash. The sophomore stopped her clock at 25.67, which landed 10th of 13 participants. Lydia Norman added a top-10 showing for the women as she concluded 10th in the long jump (4.98m).

For the men, Gregory Curry II and Drew Bryant notched single-digit positions in the long jump on the first day of competition. The former leapt 6.66m to end third of 13 and the latter jumped 6.48m to finish sixth. Cameron Rice added a sixth-place result out of 22 runners in the 100m dash on Saturday, using a time of 10.90 seconds to seal his position.

Barnes secured the other two top-10 efforts for the Cavs on Saturday as the Waxhaw, N.C. native competed in the women's shot put and the women's high jump. Breaking her second school record of the meet, Barnes claimed eighth place out of 12 athletes in the shot put thanks to her throw of 10.93m. She then ended seventh in the high jump after clearing 1.35m.
