BOONE, N.C.— The Montreat men's and women's track & field teams made a few adjustments to their post-conference championships schedules, which included the addition of the App State Open, hosted by Appalachian State University, on Friday and Saturday in Boone, N.C. With eight entries spread out across six events, the Cavaliers took on a mix of NCAA and running club competitors and secured numerous high placements.
Mahaley Cronk,
Dylan Garcia and
Kilia Hasty got the action started Friday night in the women's MJ Harrelson one mile race. With all three Cavs making their event debuts, it was Cronk who paced Montreat across the finish line with an eighth-place time of 5:15.69. Garcia (10
th; 5:21.91) joined Cronk inside the top 10, while Hasty ended 13
th in the 16-runner field with her 5:24.09 time.
Dylan Branch also made his outdoor one mile debut Friday evening, doing so in the men's invitational. The Avon Park, Fla. native concluded the event in ninth after reaching the finish line in 4:16.34.
The longest event of the weekend, the women's 10k, featured Montreat's
Carlyn Bobo placing runner-up. Bobo wrapped up the events Friday night with a time of 39:39.89, which proved to be the second-fastest among the five participants.
Caleb Wright began Saturday the way Bobo ended it: with a second-place performance. Racing among a field of 14 men's 5000m athletes, Wright utilized a 15:33.81 showing to end as the event runner-up.
Macy Parks became the fifth Cavalier to make her outdoor one mile debut early Saturday afternoon when she competed in the women's open division. The freshman from Denver, N.C. needed 5:27.85 to cross the finish line, good for third-best out of 21 participants.
Montreat's eighth and final entry of the weekend came in the women's 3000m steeplechase.
Catherine Slack collected a seventh-place nod among the 12-runner field as she closed out her race in 12:08.40.

The Montreat men's and women's track & field teams continue their preparation for nationals by sending athletes to The Hill City Twilight in Lynchburg, Va. on Friday, as well as the Aggie Invitational in Greensboro, N.C. next Friday and Saturday.
