ASHEVILLE, N.C.— The Montreat men's track & field team made the trip to Asheville, N.C. for the Asheville Bulldog Invitational on Saturday. Twenty athletes used 25 entries in 12 different events to notch one national standard, a handful of top-10 results and a plethora of personal bests.
Dustin Blevins tallied the lone national standard for the Cavaliers at the meet as he competed in the long jump. Leaping to an NAIA "B" standard distance of 7.16m, the King, N.C. native concluded second of 16 athletes.
Drew Bryant used an outdoor personal record in the long jump (6.58m) to claim fourth.
Two other Cavs registered top-10 results in field events, led by
Caleb Wells' runner-up performance in the pole vault. Wells cleared 3.85m to end second of seven participants. In the high jump,
Gregory Curry II leapt over 1.85m to conclude in sixth place of 14 competitors.
On the track, three efforts landed in the top 10 of their respective events. In the 4x100m relay, the team of
Aaron Hall,
Juan Arce,
Cameron Rice and Blevins ran to fourth place of 10 entries thanks to their time of 42.24 seconds.
Brandon Jefferson crossed eighth of 10 athletes in the 110m hurdles (16.16), while
Nathan Stamey earned ninth in the 1500m race. Stamey finished in 4:07.01, putting him in the top 10 among 41 runners.

Ryan Thornburg (4:33.37; 38
th) made their debuts in the event.

Men's track & field now looks to defend its three consecutive outdoor conference championships at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships Thursday through Saturday in Columbia, S.C.
