Trio of All-Americans End Indoor Season, Montreat Begins Outdoor Season

BROOKINGS, S.D.— On Saturday, three athletes from the Montreat men's track & field team wrapped up action at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championship, while both the Montreat men's and women's track & field teams sent athletes to the Susan Rouse Invitational in South Carolina, beginning outdoor season in the process.

The trio at indoor nationals each registered All-American status to add six team points to the Cavaliers' score. Ultimately, Montreat concluded with 14 points, good enough for a tie for 20th place as a team.

First, Ruchen Blaauw tallied a point in the men's 1000m event. The Cape Town, South Africa native finished eighth of 10 participants to secure his All-American honor with a time of 2:26.72. In the Cavs' next event on the track, the men's 3000m, Dylan Branch recorded his All-American award. Thanks to a sixth-place result of 8:21.50, Branch contributed three team points to Montreat's total.

In the field, Dustin Blevins secured his second All-American performance of nationals in the men's triple jump. Blevins made the final with a 14.85m third attempt and carried that result through the final, where he ended seventh for two points.

At the Susan Rouse Invitational hosted by Southern Wesleyan University, the Cavaliers also had success. Emma Barnes captured an event win in the women's javelin thanks to a school record throw of 35.97m, while Ali Ray won the women's 5000m race with her time of 18:38.62.

Montreat went on to collect 10 top-5 marks, including six finishes in the top three. Kenzie Card concluded third in the women's hammer throw with an effort of 33.97m, and Caleb Wells added a third-place throw in the men's javelin (36.93m). Davis Nicol and Wells captured the other pair of top-notch results by tallying second and third in the men's pole vault, respectively, as both cleared 3.50m.
