Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Quintin Olson

Eagles sweep the Cavaliers in Waleska

WALESKA, Ga.— Montreat's women's volleyball squad made its return to face Reinhardt University in another Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match Wednesday evening. The Eagles got the better of the Cavaliers last night and did the same tonight as they swept the Cavs in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-13 and 25-14.

Montreat (8-10, 8-10 AAC) came out with some fire and wanted to get some revenge from the night prior. The Cavs stayed resilient as they fought to keep the score tied at 10 thanks in part to multiple kill efforts from Elizabeth Harrington, Karly Horn and Reese Davis. Montreat stayed hungry and was within three with the hosts only needing five points to claim the frame. The Eagles finished off the set with a 5-1 run, taking it 25-18.

The second frame was all Reinhardt. After the Cavaliers stole the first point, the hosts went on a 9-1 scoring run. Back-to-back kills from Horn stopped the RU momentum only temporarily as those Eagles soared with another 5-1 spurt of their own. Both teams traded points until the Cavs were trailing 18-10. Another run from the home team sealed set two and put the Cavaliers back on their heels. The Eagles took the set with a 7-3 stretch, winning it by a 25-13 scoreline.

Set No. 3 was filled to the brim with runs. In it, Reinhardt led with a 7-0 spurt and then found a run of five three separate times. Only seven total points in the frame were not included in a run of three points or higher. Montreat etched two 5-0 runs as well. Those were highlighted by kills from Davis, Harrington and Genesis Hernandez, who totaled three kills in the final set. Reinhardt snatched the frame by a score of 25-14.

Davis and Horn were the only Cavaliers with double-digit kills, notching 13 and 10, respectively. It was Cate Hale who combined with Horn to lead the dig category, corralling 18 and 14 in that order. Katie Alexander totaled 29 assists on the night.

Reinhardt led the match in multiple categories that told the story of the game. The major ones were serving aces and blocks. The Cavs didn't tally a single block during the contest, while Reinhardt tallied three solos and 16 assisted blocks. The Cavs also committed 27 attack errors on the night as they hit .042 as a team.

The Cavs' next matchup will be on the road at Bluefield University this Saturday, Nov. 9. First serve for the AAC matchup is scheduled for 11 a.m.
