BLUEFIELD, Va.— Montreat's women's volleyball team made the weekend trip to knock out two birds with one stone and play two Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponents on the campus of Bluefield University. The Cavaliers went 1-1 on the day, facing the Bluefield Rams followed by the Kentucky Christian University Knights. Montreat lost the first match (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) and won its second by a scoreline of 25-22, 26-24, 25-17.
Game one against Bluefield (19-12, 14-7 AAC) was a quick sweep of the Cavs. No Montreat player had double-digit kills. The Cavaliers totaled 22 kills in the contest with 22 errors as well.
In-between Montreat contests, Bluefield hosted some senior day festivities for the Cavaliers. After the celebration, the match was one for the books. Senior
Kamryn Wolf made an appearance in every set by serving a handful of points. Wolf suffered a season-ending injury in just the third match back after Hurricane Helene. Despite playing in her brace, Wolf's presence on the floor aided her teammates in winning a point.
Montreat won the first two sets by a combined five points. In the third frame, a 6-0 run for the Cavs paired later with a 4-0 spurt kept the Cavaliers out front at the end of the day. The victory was the first since their triumph at Columbia College on Oct. 29.
Elizabeth Harrington led the way for the Cavs with 12 kills. Senior
Reese Davis had nine on the night in match two.
"Today was truly special as we celebrated our seniors and all they've contributed to this program," said head coach Cristinia Viera. "Closing out their senior day with a 3-0 victory, surrounded by family, is a moment they'll hold onto, but even more meaningful was the opportunity to honor their dedication, resilience and impact both on and off the court. We're so proud of the growth they've shown and the legacy they leave. A big thank you to Bluefield for helping make this day unforgettable."
With the regular season now complete, the Cavs will compete next Thursday, Nov. 14 at the AAC Tournament in Kingsport, Tenn.
