WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.— The Montreat men's track & field team sent 17 athletes to compete across 10 different events at the Mondo College Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C. on Saturday. Overall, the Cavs tallied four top-5 efforts, an event victory and a national standard throughout the day.
A pair of impressive performances on the track highlighted the meet for the Cavaliers as
Dustin Blevins and
Dylan Branch put together outstanding races in the 60m and 1000m, respectively. In the 60m prelims, Blevins notched the fifth-fastest time of 27 participants with a 6.88. He then placed second in the 60m final by improving on his personal best and clocking a 6.87. Branch ran to a victory in the 1000, notching an NAIA B standard time of 2:32.48 en route to the fastest result of 20 runners.
Montreat put together two additional top-5 showings as
Aaron Hall narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 60m prelims with a third-place finish (7.10) in the 60m qualifying.
Wyatt Wilson captured the final such result by ending third in the 3000m race walk (15:16.73).
Matthew Morin debuted in the 600m, collecting a 15
th-place finish thanks to his 1:31.26 time, while the duo of
Davis Nicol and
Edward McClellan grabbed the last of the top-15 placements by the Cavaliers with 3.70m efforts in the pole vault. Nicol claimed 12
th and McClellan earned 14
th of 22 athletes.
