POWDER SPRINGS, Ga.— Fourteen athletes from the Montreat men's wrestling team made their way to Georgia for the Life U Open on Saturday. Out of the participants, five different Cavaliers combined for seven individual victories at the tournament.
A pair of wrestlers competing in the 149-lb bracket each notched two wins for the Cavs, who put five in the weight class.
Alex Chester started his tournament with an 18-0 tech fall triumph and, after moving to the consolation bracket, tallied a pin over teammate
Nathan Alley to conclude the event with a 2-2 record.
Following a loss to a ranked wrestler,
Braden Wharton recorded two victories in the consolation bracket at 149. The Hickory, N.C. native defeated two wrestlers from St. Andrews, one via fall in 2:51 and the other via a 20-13 decision, as he also finished the open 2-2.
Antonio Petraglia pinned his first opponent in the 184-lb bracket, while
Tyler McDonald registered a close 5-4 decision victory in the consolation portion of 184 and
Josh Mojica-Smith collected a major decision win in the 174 consolation to wrap up Montreat's wins on the day.
Dre Bonner dropped two overtime results at 184.

Men's wrestling returns to the Peach State for its next event, a dual at Brewton-Parker College, on Dec. 1. Bouts are scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
