MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat men's wrestling team earned two wins inside McAlister Gymnasium Saturday morning, defeating Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opponent St. Andrews University 54-0 before topping Midway University by one (23-22). With the results, Montreat now sits at 4-3 (3-3 AAC) for the season.
 
The Cavaliers cruised to a victory over conference foe St. Andrews (0-9, 0-5 AAC), utilizing a pair of early forfeits and a series of pins to take each of the opening eight matches by the maximum of six points. Five Cavs earned fall victories as Zeke Grabowski (125), Mohamed Ben Hafsia (149), Taquel Young (157), Jacob Catagas (174) and Tyler McDonald (184) overcame their opposition to give Montreat a substantial edge.
 
The home side closed out its shutout with two late decisions by Antonio Petraglia and Grant Trotter, leading to a 54-0 final scoreline. The result marked the first time in program history the Cavs have shutout an opponent by winning all 10 bouts and marked the largest margin of victory in the team's short history.
 
In the competition against Midway (5-7), a forfeit gave the Cavs a 6-0 advantage; however, the Eagles responded to lead 10-6. A major decision by Ben Hafsia followed by three consecutive decisions allowed Montreat to take a 19-10 advantage with a trio of bouts left as Young, Easton Griffin and Catagas all won their matchups.
 
The Eagles answered to pull within three (19-16), but Seth Williamson secured the team triumph with a vital major decision at 197 and the Cavs completed the day with a 1-point win.
 
Men's wrestling now travels to No. 2 Life University for a bout on Wednesday. Matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
