ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.— At the Mountain Empire Intercollegiate hosted by Milligan University on Monday and Tuesday, the Montreat men's golf team placed fifth out of 10 competing schools. The Cavs shot a 311 on day one and improved for a 301 on day two to jump up two spots as a team and finish in the fifth position.
Ryan Poblacion led the way for the Cavaliers in round number one, carding a three-over 75 to sit tied for 23
rd through 18 holes.
Cole Wiley shot a 78 to hold 36
th with one other player after the opening round, while the trio of
Hayden Zitzewitz,
Aaron Elmore and
Ben Leonard each tied with a group of golfers with 79's.
Ben Coggins capped off the first-round scores for Montreat with an 84.
All six golfers notched at least one birdie on the first day of competition, captained by Poblacion and Leonard, who each registered two holes under par.
Poblacion had the best second day of any Cavalier score-wise, registering a 74 to finish tied for 15
th. Elmore, who had seven birdies in his second round, also notched a 74 to tie for 24
th. Wiley used a strong start, stringing together seven pars on his initial seven holes to shoot a 76 and tie for 29
th, while Zitzewitz rounded out his second 18 with a trio of birdies to end knotted for 35
th (77). Leonard tied for 37
th thanks to his 78 on day two and Coggins finished 55
th with an 80.
Once again, all six Montreat athletes scored at least one hole under par, with three different golfers notching multiple holes under par captained by Elmore's seven. The six also each bested their first-round scores on the second 18.

Men's golf now travels to Barnsley Gardens Resort for the AAC Direct Qualifier in Adairsville, Ga. on April 25 and 26.
