Cheerleading Competes in Program’s First Competition

LAURINBURG, N.C.— In the team's initial competition in program history, the Montreat competitive cheer team traveled to St. Andrews University for a contest against the Knights.

Montreat's first routine notched scores of 70.7 and 72.4 from the pair of judges, which averaged out to 71.55 points. SAU utilized gaps in building skills and jumping/tumbling skills to combine for an 82.5-point average.

The Knights improved their team standing with their second demonstration (83.55 points), while the Cavaliers averaged a 70.5 following scores of 70.9 and 70.1, respectively, from the two judges. With their results, the Cavs rank 22nd of the 49 NAIA schools that have competed so far this season and are second among Appalachian Athletic Conference squads.

Cheer will now head to New Orleans for the Battle of the Big Easy hosted by Xavier-Louisiana on Friday, Feb. 11.
