JOHNSON CITY, Tenn.— At the East Tennessee Collegiate on Monday and Tuesday, the Montreat men's golf team used a strong second day of competition to tie for seventh as a squad.
After the opening round of play, the Cavaliers sat eighth in the 11-team field following a 317.
Aaron Elmore was the squad's top finisher on day one, tying for 24
th with a 78 in the books.
Cole Wiley and
Tanner Reynolds, who each shot a 79 over the first 18 holes, tied for 28
th heading into Tuesday. Sean League (81) and
Ryan Poblacion (83) wrapped up Montreat's Monday performance.
The Cavaliers each improved drastically as Elmore led the way to shoot a one-over 73 in the final round, tying for 16
th individually. Wiley also bested his first-round score by three strokes to finish tied for 24
th. Reynolds matched his score from day one to end knotted in 30
th place. League shot a stroke better to finish as one of two in 36
th, while Poblacion ended with a 79 to conclude tied for 39
th. Overall, Montreat took 10 less shots during the second round to score a 307.
Luca Rodrigues competed as an individual at the tournament, completing his first round in 80 strokes and his second in only 75 shots to end tied for 24
th with Wiley.
Men's golf will have a scrimmage at Spartanburg Methodist on Thursday before traveling to Memphis, Tenn. for the NAIA Memphis Shootout on Oct. 11 and 12.
