MONTREAT, N.C.— Following one of the best seasons in the program's recent history, the Montreat women's soccer team will try to build on momentum from a year ago with several key matchups during the fall of 2021.
The Cavaliers begin their crusade with a home contest against Salem College on August 27. Following an exhibition versus Belmont Abbey, the Cavs kick off conference play with the reigning AAC regular season champs, Truett McConnell, on the road on Sept. 11.
Montreat, who was the lone team to take points from the Bears during the league slate last year thanks to a scoreless draw, then starts plays three of the next four, and five of the next seven, on its home turf. After three competitions against squads the Cavs outscored by a combined 12-0 last season in mid-September, the Cavaliers will look to avenge one of their two regular season losses when the team hosts Tennessee Wesleyan to begin its eight-game final month on Oct. 2.
Following a matchup with Kentucky Christian at Pulliam Stadium on the 6th, Montreat takes to the road for three straight in the middle of October before returning on the 23rd when the Cavs battle new AAC member Johnson University.
In their home finale, the Cavaliers will face the reigning AAC Tournament Champions, Reinhardt University, on Oct. 27 prior to competing on the road in the last game of the regular season on Oct. 30 at Brenau.
"It's an exciting time for Montreat women's soccer," started head coach Kristin Eggert. She continued, "The players are eager and hungry to advance. We are returning some key players who were instrumental in last year's success and we have some opportunities available to see who will rise up."
On the squad's schedule, Eggert noted, "We have a solid non-conference schedule to prepare for AAC play as it is a conference where every game matters and we cannot afford to take a game off."
