Men's Golf Competes at NAIA Memphis Shootout
MEMPHIS, Tenn.— The Montreat men's golf team jumped back into tournament action early this week at the NAIA Memphis Shootout, where the Cavs placed 17
th as a squad. Over two days and three rounds, the Cavaliers battled stiff competition and one of the most difficult courses of the season in TPC Southwind.
Day one consisted of two rounds. Montreat shot 658 during the first 36 holes of play, including shaving 16 strokes off its first-round team score (337-321). The Cavs concluded the opening day of competition in 17
th-place out of a large field.
Hayden Zitzewitz stood as the highest official scorer for Montreat following the first day of competition. Shooting 161 (80-81) through 36 holes, Zitzewitz used his consistency to slot into a tie for 48
th-place entering the final round of play.
Every other Cavalier who competed on Monday posted a better score in the second round compared to their opening rounds. Some made incremental improvements, like
David Roberts (83-81) and
Ryan Poblacion (86-82), while others made more drastic moves in round two, like
Tanner Reynolds (88-78) and
Cole Wiley (89-81). Even Montreat's three individual competitors—Sean League,
Will Hardwick and
Ben Coggins—shaved two, nine and 16 strokes off their scores, respectively.
The second day of competition featured the third and final round of play. Montreat wrapped up the round with its best team score, 316, five strokes better than round two. Once again, Zitzewitz led Montreat on the course with an individual round of 77, bringing his three-round total to 238, good for a tie for 47
th-place. Poblacion put together the second-best individual round score (78), as well as the second-best three-round score (246) for Montreat. Reynolds entered the clubhouse as the third-highest Montreat finisher, as his third-round score of 81 brought his two-day total to 247. Roberts and Wiley wrapped up their final round with an 85 and an 80, bringing their final score totals to 249 and 250, respectively.
Montreat, outside of its five official team competitors, also had three athletes competing as individuals. Hardwick was the top individual finisher out of that group, shooting 248 over the three rounds. League and Coggins also finished their final individual round on Tuesday, totaling 259 and 263, respectively.

Montreat men's golf competes next at the AAC Fall Preview. The two-day, two-round tournament is slated for next Monday and Tuesday at Barnsley Gardens Resort in Adairsville, Ga.
