Ander Crenshaw (SO/Suwanee, GA) led the team on Monday with a 74 but struggled with an 81 on Tuesday to finish in a tie for 21st place. Freshman Andrew Stewart (FR/Alexander, NC) had another strong showing, finishing 28th with a total of 160 (79-81) while Duncan Moody (SO/Cleveland, GA) was tied for 31st with a 167 (84-83). The Cavalier men will be back in action October 3rd & 4th when they take part in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championships at the Wasioto Winds Golf Club in Pineville, KY.
The Montreat women's team also competed at the Reinhardt event, shooting a combined score of 710 (355-355) over two rounds to finish in sixth place as a team.
Sara Gwillim (FR/Bethalto, IL) led the charge for the Cavaliers, placing in a tie for 8th place with a score of 165 (84-81). Emily McFarland (SO/McLeansville, NC) also had a strong effort, finishing tied for 14th place with a 170 (85-85). Emma Roberts (FR/Burlington, NC) placed 29th with a 185 (91-94) while Morgan Byles (FR/Connelly Springs, NC) tied for 31st place with a 190 (95-95).
"Three putts and careless mistakes around the greens cost us a lot of strokes this week", said Coach Sullivan. "If we can get our short game tightened up as a team, I know we can post some low scores. It was especially exciting though to see Sara Gwillim get her first top ten finish as a freshman in her collegiate debut as well as Emily McFarland shooting her two lowest rounds. We have some work to do, but I am confident we will start to see some solid results as we get deeper into the season."
The Cavalier women will be back in action October 10th and 11th when they take part in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Fall Championship at Highland Country Club in LaGrange, GA.
