Tom Flynn completed his first season as women's head coach in 2020 - one that was curtailed prematurely after five games. Under Flynn, the Cavs produced the NAIA's leader in groundballs, and the No. 6 player in the country in draw controls. The team set records for goals in a game, goals per game, and goals by a player in a game. The 2020 Cavs also defeated an NCAA opponent for the first time in the five-year history of the program.

In 2021, the Cavaliers achieved new heights under Flynn's direction, recording a program-high in wins (5) and registering the most goals scored in a game in program history (22- at Brenau on 2/11/21). During the year, Izzy Knight led the NAIA in goals per game (5.08) and was second in the nation in total goals scored (66). She earned AAC Offensive Player of the Year under Flynn, while goalkeeper Erin Cleland and defender Lani Page also notched AAC First Team recognition. Cleland ranked second in the NAIA in total saves (151) and third in saves per game (11.62).

Under Flynn's leadership in 2022, the Cavs set additional program records for wins (12), conference wins (4), goals scored, goals per game and goals in a single game en route to the best season in program history. Montreat collected four all-conference honors and three conference individual awards including the AAC Player of the Year award, AAC Freshman of the Year and AAC Coach of the Year, which Flynn earned. The Cavaliers appeared in the NAIA Top 10 Poll for the first time ever during the 2022 season, while the program saw the initial NAIA All-American in its history. To cap off the postseason, the Cavs defeated Truett McConnell, 25-22, in its first-ever AAC Tournament contest.

Flynn served as Montreat's assistant men's lacrosse coach (2016, 2019, 2020) for three seasons. The 2019 squad recorded its first-ever program win over an NCAA opponent, collected the team's first-ever AAC freshman of the year honor, and received the most AAC postseason honors (3) in its young history.

He has written on lacrosse for the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, and Denver Post, and Forbes and has authored a book on the men's game in Maryland. Prior to switching to journalism and coaching, Flynn spent more than two decades in corporate finance, culminating in a vice-presidential role within the Capital Markets division of Wells Fargo.

The Chatham, New Jersey, native was a three-sport athlete in high school and played baseball for Mt. St. Mary's University before finishing his finance degree at James Madison University. Flynn played baseball for a decade following college and in addition to lacrosse, he has previously coached baseball, basketball, and football.
