Simpson graduated from Mars Hill University with a degree in physical education and a concentration in coaching. Simpson was a three-year starter for the Lions' basketball team. After Graduation, she helped to coach the Lions for two years.

Simpson and her husband, Charles, reside in Fletcher, N.C.
