Michael Bonifay joined the Montreat athletics staff in August 2018 as the pitching coach for the Cavaliers baseball program.
Bonifay was an undergraduate assistant coach at North Greenville University in 2016-17, leading into his pitching coach role with the Lima Locos in the summer of 2017. During his time there, the Locos won the Great Lakes Summer League Championship.
In the 2018 spring season, Bonifay took the role of volunteer assistant coach at Barton College where he oversaw the pitching staff. In his time at Barton, he coached 2018 Colorado Rockies draftee Trent Fennell. In the summer of 2018, he was the pitching coach for the Statesville Owls.
Bonifay holds an extensive collegiate athlete career that includes time with UNC-Charlotte, South Mountain Community College, and North Greenville University where he was a right-handed pitcher. As a player, he won consecutive conference championships, first in 2014 with South Mountain and then in 2015 with North Greenville.
The Pfafftown, NCÂ native graduated from North Greenville in Dec. 2017 with a Bachelor's in History.
