Marshall McDonald joined the Montreat athletics staff in August 2018 as the assistant baseball coach for the Cavaliers.
McDonald coached at Catawba Valley Community College from 2014 to 2017 where he served as the strength and conditioning coordinator for the athletic program, as well as the hitting coach for the baseball team. In 2015, he helped lead CVCC to a third-place finish in the JUCO World Series.
McDonald has also spent time coaching in the collegiate summer leagues previous to Montreat. He served as associate head coach of the Statesville Owls in 2015, head coach of the Lenoir Oilers in 2016, and assistant coach for the Lexington County Blowfish in 2017. McDonald led the Oilers to the Carolina-Virginia Collegiate League Championship as the head coach in 2016, as the team led the league in home runs (50), doubles (112) and RBIs (357).
As a player, McDonald spent one season at Catawba Valley Community College, earning All-Region X honors, before playing his final two seasons at Montreat College. As a Cavalier, McDonald was named a team captain as a senior and earned a spot on the Appalachian Athletic Conference All-Academic team as a junior. McDonald played baseball professionally between 2013-2015 that included stints with the Hawaii Stars, Vallejo Admirals, Sonoma Stompers and Pittsburg Mettle all in the Pacific Association.
The native of Red Springs, NC graduated from Montreat in 2012 with a Bachelor's in Communications.
