GREENSBURG, Ky. — The Montreat College cycling team returned to action on Saturday and Sunday, traveling to Greensburg, Ky., for the Lindsey Wilson MTB Showdown, hosted by Lindsey Wilson College. Competing across four disciplines during the two-day event, the Cavaliers secured two top-five finishes and one additional top-10 result, while four riders completed their respective races in total.
Clara Overholser secured fourth place among eight competitors in field one of the women's downhill discipline with a time of 1:08.4. The Brevard, N.C., native also took part in field one of the women's dual slalom, placing ninth among 14 riders.
William Ellithorp secured another top-five result for the Cavs, placing fourth among five riders in field three of the men's cross country competition. The freshman completed Sunday's race in 1:25:16.19. Ellithorp also took part in field two of the men's short track cross country event on Saturday, finishing 19th with a time of 17:43.93.
Lucas Zeringue finished 17th among 26 riders in field one of the men's dual slalom. The Jacksonville, Fla., native then returned on Sunday for field one of the men's downhill event, where he placed 15th with a time of 55.1 seconds.
Wesley Hane rounded out Montreat's competitors, racing in field one of the men's short track cross country event on Saturday. The freshman recorded a time of 22:36.43 to finish 28th out of 37 riders. Hane also took part in field one of the men's cross country race Sunday but was unable to finish after suffering a flat tire.
"The team had a great showing at a very hot venue this weekend," said Head Coach Doug Cline. "Clara ended up getting top 10 in both of her events. Wesley was pushing hard and had a flat tire during the cross country event, forcing him to pull out of the race. Lucas finished well against a stacked field in the downhill and dual slalom, and William competed in the cross country and short track events and continues to grow."

Montreat gets a week off before heading to Banner Elk, N.C. on Sept. 19-20 for a competition hosted by Lees-McRae College.
