MESA, Colo. — The Montreat College cycling team learned on Wednesday that a program-record three Cavaliers qualified for the 2026 USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships next week. According to the announcement, Wesley Hane, Clara Overholser and Lucas Zeringue earned the opportunity to compete at Powderhorn Mountain Resort in Mesa, Colo.

While Overholser and Zeringue are returners from last year, all three Cavs will make their nationals debuts from Oct. 7-11.

Overholser crushed her sophomore season, notching at least one top-10 result during every weekend of the regular-season slate. At the Southeastern Collegiate Cycling Conference (SECCC) Championships last week, Overholser ended fourth in the women's dual slalom and secured bronze in the women's downhill. In the season-long SECCC women's gravity standings, Overholser concluded as runner-up out of 20 riders.

Also participating last week at Ride Rock Creek, Zeringue placed 19^th and 14^th in the men's dual slalom and men's downhill, respectively. A sophomore from Jacksonville, Fla., Zeringue landed in 11^th on the SECCC men's gravity leaderboard for the year.

Hane spent the majority of his 2026 campaign racing in the cross country and short track cross country disciplines. The freshman ranked 31^st in the SECCC men's endurance standings after finishing 26^th in cross country and 42^nd in short track cross country last week.

"After a great SECCC season, we are headed to collegiate nationals," said Head Coach Doug Cline. "Three of our riders qualified to participate. As a team, we worked hard and are very proud of their accomplishments this year. Looking forward to a great collegiate nationals event in Colorado."

Hane, Overholser and Zeringue cap off the 2026 cycling campaign on Oct. 7-11 at the USA Cycling Collegiate Mountain Bike National Championships in Mesa, Colo.
