SPARTANBURG, S.C. — The Montreat College men's soccer team saw its Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) match at Spartanburg Methodist College enter a lengthy weather delay on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 3-1 with 36:42 remaining in regulation, lightning entered the Spartanburg, S.C. area, resulting in a postponement of the Cavaliers' contest. While an official resumption date and time have yet to be announced, the matchup will pick up where it left off when play officially resumes.
 
Montreat currently holds a 2-2-1 (0-2-0 AAC) record, while the Pioneers maintain a 1-4-1 (0-1-1 AAC) standing.
 
The early action favored the Cavs as Ricardas Milasius tallied the first goal of his collegiate career merely 5:36 into the showdown. Flying up the pitch on the counter, Milasius sprinted down a pass and unveiled an impressive stutter-step move to throw off the pace of a defender. The London, England native then guided a shot past the Pioneers' goalkeeper, putting the visitors on top with his unassisted tally.
 
Spartanburg Methodist began to find its groove as the half progressed, but goalie Joey Randazzo stood tall in his first start in a Montreat kit. The freshman faced 11 shots across the initial 45 minutes, four of which landed on target. Randazzo proved up to the task, stopping all four attempts and aiding the Cavaliers in carrying their 1-0 advantage into the intermission.
 
While less than 10 minutes ticked off the clock during the second half, SMC had no shortage of goals in store. The hosts leveled the match at 1-1 just 29 seconds into the period, and they claimed the lead less than four-and-a-half minutes later. At the 52:05 mark, Spartanburg Methodist added some insurance, delivering another strike to build a 3-1 advantage on the scoreboard.
 
Lightning brought forth a weather delay only 73 seconds after the Pioneers established a 3-1 lead. Following a lengthy break, it was determined the contest could not resume.
 
Through 53:18 of play, SMC owned the edge in shots (16-6), shots on goal (8-3) and corner kicks (6-3). Montreat registered more saves (5-1) and fouls (7-3) during the match, while the home side was flagged twice more for being offside (3-1).
 
Six different Cavs registered a shot during Saturday's abbreviated action, including Milasius, Emmanuel Ntimeh, Alejandro Hernandez, Jose Solano, Viktor Mladenov and Sako Mo. Milasius, Hernandez and Mo placed their attempts on frame. Randazzo made five saves across 53:18 in net.
