SWANNANOA, N.C. — The Montreat College women's tennis team finished up its 2026 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) regular season slate in triumphant fashion on Friday afternoon, taking all four contested singles matches to claim a 4-3 victory over the Columbia College Koalas. With the win at Asheville Christian Academy, the Cavaliers improved to 4-11 (3-5 AAC) on the year, while CC fell to 6-6 (2-6 AAC).
Despite putting up a good fight, the Cavs were unable to secure the doubles point.
Ana Marija Horvacki and
Yamile Cuiza recorded a positive 6-1 result at No. 2, but
Catalina Pan and
Clara Roman landed on the wrong side of a 6-4 final in the top flight. Montreat forfeited the third doubles pairing due to only having four healthy players available.
With only four competitors on the lineup card, the Cavaliers also forfeited the singles clashes at No. 5 and No. 6. As a result, the hosts entered the contested singles bouts down 3-0 on the scoreboard. However, the high-pressure scenario brought out the best in the Cavs.
Four straight-sets triumphs sealed the overall win for the home side. Roman proved victorious in the top flight with a 6-1, 6-2 final. Pan also won on the second court by an identical scoreline. Like her teammates, Cuiza only lost three games in singles action, cruising to a 6-2, 6-1 triumph at No. 3. Horvacki sealed the match for the Cavaliers thanks to her 6-4, 6-1 winner in the fourth flight.
Up next, the Montreat College women's tennis team hosts Mars Hill University for an out-of-conference clash on Thursday, April 9. Matches are scheduled to take place at Asheville Christian Academy in Swannanoa, N.C.
