ROCK HILL, S.C. — In addition to participating in the Wake Forest Invitational on Thursday and Friday, the Montreat College men's and women's track & field teams added the Winthrop Invitational to their outdoor slates for Friday and Saturday. With 16 entries giving it a go across roughly a dozen events, the Cavaliers competed in their final tune-up before next week's Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
Most of Friday's action in Rock Hill, S.C. took place in the field. A trio of Cavs started the day in the women's hammer throw.
Shelby Brown led the group with a sixth-place finish out of 20 athletes. The upperclassman hurled her implement 40.27m, falling just 0.52m shy of matching her program record.
Isis Rain Giron ended ninth with a top mark of 35.45m, while
Izzi Ackerman rounded out the trio in 15
th thanks to her 32.31m performance. Ackerman then went on to participate in the women's javelin, concluding 14
th of 16 behind a 13.90m effort.
William Wood and
Drew Bryant also spent time representing Montreat at the Winthrop Invitational. The former placed ninth out of 14 throwers in the men's hammer with his 36.64m showing. Meanwhile, the latter utilized a distance of 6.59m to finish sixth out of 17 in the men's long jump. Bryant also competed on the track in South Carolina, doing so in the men's 200m. The Candler, N.C. native dashed his way across the finish line in 22.13 seconds, good for 18
th out of 46 sprinters.
The Cavaliers called a late audible on Friday to close out the day, sending
Cameron Rice to North Carolina A&T State University for the Aggie Invitational. Like Bryant, Rice also ran in the 200m, placing 45
th of 98 thanks to his 21.98-second time.
Saturday's action at Winthrop University featured exclusively field events for Montreat.
Trinety Dajuste secured one of the top performances of the weekend with her third-place finish in the women's triple jump. Participating in a field of nine athletes, Dajuste added 0.14m to her personal best, bounding her way to a distance of 10.79m. The freshman then followed up that performance by tying for 10
th out of 14 in the women's high jump. Dajuste cleared 1.45m to capture her placement.
Wood and Ackerman were back to competing in Rock Hill on day two, with both Cavs capturing a spot inside their respective event's top 10. Wood's 41.75m effort in the men's discus garnered fourth place out of 20 throwers. Meanwhile, Ackerman wrapped up the women's shot put with an 8.92m mark, good for 10
th of 14.

The Montreat College men's and women's track & field teams turn their attention toward hosting the AAC Championships next Thursday through Saturday, April 23-25, at Pulliam Stadium in Black Mountain, N.C.
