ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The Montreat College men's and women's track & field teams opened competition on Wednesday at the 2026 NAIA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Asheville, N.C. Multiple weather delays altered the opening day schedule, allowing only two Cavaliers to compete.
Emma Barnes began the heptathlon with a strong performance across four events. Barnes currently sits eighth overall with 2,873 points, highlighted by fourth-place finishes in both the 100m hurdles and shot put on day one.
Macy Parks raced in the women's 1500m prelims, clocking a time of 4:49.69 to place ninth in the first heat and 18th overall. Despite a gritty effort, Parks narrowly missed qualifying for Friday's final.
Inclement weather and continued delays forced the postponement of the men's 3000m steeplechase prelims, along with the men's and women's 10k finals. The men's steeplechase prelims have been rescheduled for day two at 1:15 p.m., while the women's and men's 10k events are now set for 6:45 and 7:35 p.m., respectively.
