GREENSBORO, N.C. — The Montreat College men's tennis team completed its nonconference season series sweep of the Guilford College Quakers on Wednesday afternoon, winning 5-1 in Greensboro, N.C. after claiming a 6-1 victory in Black Mountain, N.C. last October. With the triumph, the Cavaliers improved to 5-11 on the year, while the hosts dropped to 2-13 following the loss.
Montreat captured the doubles point over Guilford by claiming wins on two of the three courts.
Julian Stolevski and
Paul Saemann competed in the top spot, finishing with a 6-3 score in their favor. Meanwhile, the Quakers forfeited the third pairing to
Youssef Idboufous and
Fabrizio Moreno due to only have five available players.
Joaquin Hernandez and
Jayden McConnell also participated in doubles action, concluding their match at No. 2 with a 1-6 result.
In singles play, the Cavs delivered numerous strong performances. Moreno secured a decisive 6-1, 6-1 victory in the top flight. Stolevski also notched a straight-sets triumph, overcoming his opposition on the fourth court with a 6-2, 6-1 final score.
Both Saemann and McConnell erased early deficits to seize their bouts in the third frame. Playing at No. 3, Saemann experienced victory via a 5-7, 6-4, 10-6 scoreline. McConnell also came out on top in the fifth flight, defeating his opponent 6-7 (5-7), 6-1, 10-6.
Ben Smith faced a tough foe at No. 2, falling 2-6, 2-6 despite a valiant effort. Meanwhile, neither side officially fielded a competitor on the sixth court, meaning the Cavaliers left Greensboro with a 5-1 team triumph.
Up next, the Montreat College men's tennis team closes out its 2026 Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) regular season slate. The Cavs face off against Columbia College on Friday, April 3 at 1:30 p.m. at Asheville Christian Academy in Swannanoa, N.C.
