BRISTOL, Tenn.— The Montreat College men's tennis team traveled to face King University on Tuesday afternoon, falling by a 6-1 decision. With the setback, the Cavaliers moved to 3-8 on the season, while the Tornado improved to 3-4 overall.
The Cavs came up short in doubles play, surrendering the point despite earning one victory. At the second position, Vitor Monteiro and Lucas Descalzi secured a solid 6-4 win. However, Paul Saemann and Julian Stolevski were defeated 6-3 at the top flight, while Youssef Idboufous and Fabrizio Moreno dropped a competitive 6-4 decision at No. 3.
In singles play, Idboufous delivered a straight-sets win on court four, defeating his opponent 6-1, 6-2. Descalzi put up a fight at court No. 3, taking the second set in a tiebreak but ultimately falling 4-6, 7-6(6), 3-10.
The Cavs faced challenges on other courts. Monteiro was defeated 7-6(2), 6-1 at the top position, and Ben Smith fell 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. On court five, Moreno lost 6-3, 6-4, while Saemann finished 6-3, 6-1 at flight six.
Looking ahead, the Cavaliers will travel to Johnson University to take on the Royals on Thursday, March 5. First serve is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Knoxville Tenn.
