MONTREAT, N.C. — The Montreat College women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at home to No. 9-ranked SCAD Atlanta in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup on Friday afternoon. The Bees dominated, sweeping all six singles matches and capturing the doubles point to secure the win. With the setback, the Cavaliers fell to 3-11 (2-5 AAC), while SCAD improved to 4-3 (4-0 AAC) on the season.
In doubles play, Catalina Pan and Clara Roman faced a tall task on the first court against the nation's top-ranked pairing, with their match halted at 5-1 once SCAD Atlanta secured the doubles point. At No. 2, Ana Marija Horvacki and Yamile Cuiza fell 6-0. Montreat did not field a team at the third position.
In singles play, the Cavs struggled to gain traction. Roman faced a tough challenge on court one, falling 6-1, 6-0, while Pan battled hard at position two but came up short, losing 6-4, 6-4. Cuiza competed at No. 3 but was unable to prevail, dropping her match 6-0, 6-3.
Horvacki competed at No. 4 singles, falling 6-2, 6-1. Kathryn Salazar played in the fifth flight and was unable to gain traction with a 6-0, 6-0 defeat. Montreat did not field a player on court six.
The Cavaliers hit the road for their final away match of the regular season on Wednesday, April 1, traveling to Greensboro, N.C. to take on Guilford College.
