BLACK MOUNTAIN, N.C. — The Montreat College women's lacrosse team lost a 31-1 final to the No. 4-ranked Reinhardt University Eagles on Friday in the squad's last matchup at Pulliam Stadium for the 2026 regular season. Following the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) contest, the Cavaliers' record shifted to 3-6 (0-3 AAC), while RU improved to 8-1 (3-0 AAC).
Reinhardt wasted no time in seizing control of Friday's showdown. The Eagles scored their first of 14 opening-quarter tallies just 42 seconds into the frame. RU held the hosts to one shot attempt in the period, which was taken by
Ruthann Stout. However, the try was blocked before it could reach the net. Ultimately, the first quarter ended with the visitors in front, 14-0.
After two additional Reinhardt goals,
Grace Wiegand officially got the Cavs on the scoreboard. Capitalizing on a green card and a player-up opportunity, Wiegand captured her 46
th goal of the campaign. That proved to be Montreat's lone strike that found the back of the net, though.
Marley Smith landed an attempt on target in the second quarter, but the Eagles' starting goalkeeper made the save. The away side tacked on two more goals in the period, and it entered halftime with an 18-1 advantage.
Picking up right where it left off, Reinhardt outscored the Cavaliers 7-0 in the third quarter and 6-0 in the fourth frame. Wiegand attempted two shots in the third period, including a free-position try that was saved. However, Montreat couldn't get a shot off across the final 15 minutes of play. The Eagles closed out the third quarter with a 25-1 lead and wrapped up the game with a 31-1 triumph.
On the night, RU concluded the action with more shots (45-5), clears (5-1), ground balls (16-3), draw controls (25-9) and free-position scores (1-0). Reinhardt also committed nine fewer turnovers (13-4), while the Cavs made eight more saves (10-2).
Wiegand scored one goal on three shots, with two of those tries landing on frame. Defensively,
Anastasia Rust made 10 saves in net and registered all three of the team's ground balls. Stout paced the squad with three draw controls, and both she and Smith attempted one shot on the day.
