MONTREAT, N.C. — The Montreat College men's tennis team hosted No. 23-ranked SCAD Atlanta on Friday afternoon in an Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup, falling 5-2 in the contest. The Cavaliers picked up singles victories at the second and fifth positions to account for their two points on the day. With the loss, Montreat dropped to 4-11 (2-4 AAC), while the Bees improved to 3-3 on the season (3-0 AAC).
The Cavs narrowly missed out on the doubles point despite a strong showing from Lucas Descalzi and Vitor Monteiro at flight two, where the duo earned a solid 6-4 victory. At the No. 3 position, Youssef Idboufous and Fabrizio Moreno battled in a tightly contested match but ultimately fell 7-6 (7-3). Meanwhile, Julian Stolevski and Paul Saemann faced a formidable challenge on court one against the nation's 34th-ranked pairing, coming up short by a 6-3 margin.
In singles play, Monteiro achieved a straight-sets victory on court two with a 6-3, 7-5 score. Idboufous fought through a challenging match at No. 5, ultimately prevailing in a super tiebreak with a 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-8) triumph. Descalzi played a three-set thriller at flight three but was edged out with a final score of 4-6, 6-4, 5-7.
Moreno competed at No. 4, falling in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Saemann also dropped a 6-3, 6-3 decision in the sixth position, while Ben Smith faced a tough challenge at the top spot, coming up short by a 6-1, 6-1 margin.
Montreat returns to action on Wednesday, April 1, when it travels to Greensboro, N.C. for a matchup against Guilford College. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
