Montreat drops road match at North Carolina A&T

GREENSBORO, N.C.— The Montreat College men's tennis team opened its spring slate on the road Friday afternoon, squaring off against North Carolina A&T State University, an NCAA Division I foe. Facing a tough challenge in their first match of 2026, the Cavaliers battled throughout but ultimately dropped a 7-0 final score to the Aggies. With the loss, Montreat fell to 1-3 overall on the campaign, while North Carolina A&T improved to 2-0.

Montreat faced an uphill climb early, dropping the doubles point. The pair of Youssef Idboufous and Fabrizio Moreno secured a win at No. 2 with a 7-5 score. Meanwhile, Lucas Descalzi and Vitor Monteiro were defeated 6-1 at court one, and Julian Stolevski and Joaquin Hernandez fell 6-2 on the third court.

In singles play, the Cavaliers were unable to generate sustained momentum across the lineup. Idboufous turned in one of the stronger performances of the day in the No. 3 singles match, claiming eight games before falling 6-3, 7-5. Descalzi added six games on the second court, while Moreno and Stolevski each picked up four games in their respective contests. Hernandez claimed two games, and Monteiro was able to pick up one game.

Montreat will hit the road again on Friday, Feb. 13, traveling to Jefferson City, Tenn., for a matchup against Carson-Newman University.
