KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— The Montreat College men's tennis squad squared off against the Eagles of Carson-Newman University in a tightly contested team dual match Friday evening. Despite surrendering the doubles point, the Cavaliers rallied in singles play, claiming four of six matches to secure a 4–3 victory. With the win, Montreat improved to 2–3 on the season, while Carson-Newman fell to 0–2 overall.

Youssef Idboufous and
Fabrizio Moreno delivered a convincing 6–2 victory, but the Cavaliers were unable to capture another win in the flight.
Lucas Descalzi and
Vitor Monteiro battled in a tightly contested matchup before falling 5–7. In the top position,
Julian Stolevski and
Joaquin Hernandez were unable to find momentum, dropping their doubles match by a 0–6 score.
In singles play, Monteiro delivered a strong performance on court No. 2, overcoming the opposition, 7-6, 6-3. Descalzi also claimed victory at No. 3, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Moreno added another point to the team score with his 6-3, 6-2 victory. Hernandez won his match, defeating his opponent, 7-5, 6-2. The match at the fourth court saw Idboufous engage in a three-set battle, ultimately falling in tiebreak 6-4, 2-6, 5-10.
Ben Smith faced a tough opponent at No. 1, ending his match with a 0-6, 1-6 score.
The Cavaliers will be back in action at home against Truett McConnell University on Friday, Feb. 20 in Montreat, N.C.
