Cavaliers drop home match to Tusculum

MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat College women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 decision to Tusculum University on Tuesday afternoon in a home nonconference contest. The Cavaliers competed hard across the lineup but were unable to break through for a team point. With the result, Montreat moved to 2-6 on the season, while the Pioneers improved to 3-2 overall.

The Cavs dropped the doubles point against the visiting team. At the top position, Catalina Pan and Clara Roman were defeated 6-1. Ana Marija Horvacki and Yamile Cuiza fell at position two with a 6-2 score. The matchup at No. 3 did not include any Cavaliers.

In singles action, Montreat struggled to gain momentum. Cuiza played on court three and concluded her match with a 6-2, 6-0 loss. Kathryn Salazar was unable to secure a game at position No. 5, finishing with a 6-0, 6-0 score. Meanwhile, the hosts forfeited the matchup on the sixth court.

Roman faced a tough match on court one, falling behind 6-0, 4-0 before the clash was left unfinished. Pan competed at No. 2 singles and trailed 6-4 when her match was halted. Horvacki was trailing 6-1, 1-2 before her match was stopped early as well.

In its next matchup, Montreat will travel to Athens, Tenn., to face No. 3-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan University on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
