GAINESVILLE, Ga.— The Montreat College women's tennis team traveled south Tuesday afternoon for its first Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) matchup of the 2026 campaign, falling to Brenau University by a score of 6–1. With the result, the Cavaliers dropped to 1-3 (0-1 AAC), while Brenau improved to 2-2 (1-1 AAC).
The Cavs came up short in doubles play, surrendering the point to the Golden Tigers. Ana Marija Horvacki and Yamile Cuiza delivered a strong performance on court two with a 6-3 victory, but Catalina Pan and Clara Roman fell 0-6 at the No. 1 position. The No. 3 doubles match did not feature any Montreat players.
In singles play, Horvacki delivered a strong performance on the fifth court, winning in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2. Roman faced a tough opponent at No. 1, falling 0-6, 2-6. Pan played a closely contested match on court two, losing 6-7 (4-7), 1-6.
Cuiza competed at the No. 3 position, pushing the second set to a tiebreak before ultimately falling 4-6, 6-7 (4-7). Kathryn Salazar was defeated 0–6, 0–6 at the No. 4 spot, while Montreat did not field a player on court six.
The Cavaliers will return home for their next matchup, hosting the Bears of Truett McConnell University, on Friday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m. in Montreat, N.C.
