WALESKA, Ga.— According to a release from the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) office on Monday, the Montreat College men's basketball team snagged a pair of league accolades.
RJ Manginello captured AAC Men's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week recognition for the second time this season, while
Owen Stewart secured AAC Men's Basketball Defensive Player of the Week status for the first time in his collegiate career.
Overall, those two honors marked the Cavaliers' fourth and fifth awards of the campaign.
Montreat is coming off a 3-0 week in conference play where it picked up a trio of AAC wins inside McAlister Gymnasium. The Cavs topped Truett McConnell University on Feb. 10 (W 76-73) before handling Tennessee Wesleyan University (W 97-87) and Bluefield University W 105-99 OT) on Feb. 12 and Feb. 14, respectively.
Manginello proved to be both highly productive and remarkably efficient in all three of the Cavaliers' victories last week. The junior guard scored at least 24 points in each contest while never shooting worse than 60.0 percent overall, 60.0 percent from deep and 90.0 percent from the free-throw line. Manginello ultimately averaged 27.7 points per matchup on 62.2-percent shooting from the field (23-37 FG), 64.7-percent shooting from beyond the arc (11-17 3-pt FG) and 96.3-percent shooting from the stripe (26-27 FT).
Additionally, Manginello hauled in 3.3 rebounds per contest and dished out 1.3 assists per game. He also registered four steals to round out his performance.
Stewart dominated the glass last week, pulling down 32 rebounds for an average of 10.7 per matchup. His quick hands were lethal on the defensive end of the floor, totaling nine steals and one block. In the overtime victory against Bluefield, Stewart notched career highs with 18 rebounds and five steals.
Offensively, Stewart contributed 11.0 points per game and five assists.

The Montreat College men's basketball team begins its final week of the regular season with an AAC clash at Bryan College. Tipoff is scheduled for Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in Dayton, Tenn.
