KNOXVILLE, Tenn.— The Montreat College women's tennis team began its 2026 spring slate Friday evening with a team dual match against Carson-Newman University, an NCAA Division II program, at Knoxville Racquet Club in Knoxville, Tenn. Unable to secure any of the singles or doubles matches, the Cavaliers dropped a 7-0 final score, falling to 1-2 on the year as a result. C-N improved to 1-1 with the victory.
Montreat dropped the doubles point after suffering defeat in the two contested matches.
Clara Roman and
Catalina Pan faced a 6-1 loss in the No. 1 pairing, while
Yamile Cuiza and
Ana Marija Horvacki also fell 6-1 on the second court. The doubles match at No. 3 did not feature any Montreat players.
In singles play, the Cavs lost on all six courts, whether by forfeit or final score. Roman was defeated 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, and Pan fell 6-0, 6-0 in the second singles matchup. Cuiza experienced a competitive 7-5, 6-1 loss at No. 3. Horvacki went the distance at No. 4, ultimately losing in a tightly contested match, 7-6, 1-6, 11-13.
Kathryn Salazar lost 6-0, 6-0 in the clash at No. 5, while the match on the sixth court did not feature a Cavalier.
The Montreat College women's tennis team remains on the road for its Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) opener next Tuesday, Feb. 17 at Brenau University. Doubles play is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. in Gainesville, Ga.
