KANSAS CITY, Mo.— After appearing in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Men's Wrestling Coaches' Top 25 release nearly two weeks ago, the Cavaliers picked up right where they left off in Wednesday's ratings reveal. According to the national office, the Montreat College men's wrestling team is receiving votes for the second consecutive poll, while two individuals once again appeared in their respective weight class rankings.
The Cavs captured two additional voting points this go-around, tying for 39
th-most overall. Montreat joined William Penn (Iowa), Cleary (Mich.), Simpson (Calif.) and St. Ambrose (Iowa) as programs to haul in 14 points.
In action just once since the previous ratings announcement on Jan. 29, the Cavaliers capitalized on their chance and dominated their opposition. Traveling to Beckley, W.Va. on Feb. 6, Montreat made quick work of West Virginia Tech, dismantling its foe via a 40-9 team dual final score. The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) victory brought the Cavs' record to 4-4 on the campaign.
Boedi Kirkland remained at No. 17 in the 149-lb weight class after tallying 50 voting points. The freshman improved to a program-best 30-9 on the year by pinning his WVU Tech competition in 3:29. Meanwhile,
Kane Bryson moved up two spots to No. 23 in the 125-lb weight class. Also a freshman, Bryson corralled 22 points and climbed to 17-10 on the season thanks to his pin in 1:48 last week.
