MONTREAT, N.C. — The Montreat College women's wrestling team put up a strong effort against the No. 7-ranked Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders on Thursday in the squad's home opener. Leading halfway through the Mid-South Conference (MSC) dual, the Cavaliers ultimately came up just a little bit short inside McAlister Gymnasium, losing 30-20. With the result, the Cavs shifted to 0-2 (0-2 MSC) on the young season, while LWC moved to 1-0 (1-0 MSC).

Ranked eighth in the 103-pound weight class, Morgan Repasky got the hosts off to a great start in a highly-anticipated matchup. Squaring off against the 19^th-ranked wrestler, Repasky delivered a pin in 2:24 and handed Montreat a 5-0 lead in the process.

A pair of forfeit triumphs staked the visitors out to a 10-5 advantage, but Annastasia Skoda pulled the Cavaliers right back at 124. The junior also notched a pin, taking down her opposition in 1:37. Violet Darnell did the same in the 131-pound bout, needing just 1:11 to register five team points and vault the Cavs in front, 15-10.

Lindsey Wilson utilized max points during the ensuing four matches to clinch its victory. The Blue Raiders accumulated pins at 138, 145 and 180, as well as a forfeit at 160. Serenity Payne grabbed a forfeit win in the 207-pound weight class, tacking on five additional points to Montreat's final mark; however, LWC still left the mat with a 30-20 edge.

"We came up short, 30-20, but I'm proud of how our women competed," said Head Coach Cheryl Baynard. "I believe in these women, and I'm excited to see what they bring to the mat in an open tournament."

The Montreat College women's wrestling team takes a break from dual action for its next competition on Saturday, Nov. 7. The Cavaliers are slated to head to Mount Olive, N.C., for the Trojan Women's Open, hosted by the University of Mount Olive. Bouts are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
