ATHENS, Tenn. — The Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) announced on Monday afternoon that Sarah Williams has been named the first AAC Women's Basketball Offensive Player of the Week this season. The honor marks the first of the Norton, Va., native's collegiate career and gives Montreat its first weekly award in nearly a year.

The Cavaliers played just once last week, with Williams' fourth-quarter scoring surge earning her conference recognition. During the Oct. 29 matchup at Carolina University, Montreat faced a 15-point deficit during the final period. The sophomore responded with 14 of her game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Cavs rally for their first victory of the season (W 82-75). Williams finished 7-of-21 from the field (33.3 percent), converted 12-of-16 attempts at the free-throw line and dished out one assist.

Defensively, Williams recorded a block, a steal and two rebounds. She logged 38 minutes in the contest, playing a key role in Montreat's nonconference triumph.

Williams and the Montreat College women's basketball team return to the court tonight for their home opener against Voorhees University. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m. inside McAlister Gymnasium.
