GEORGETOWN, Ky.—Montreat College's men's soccer team was outlasted 4-1 in a nonconference match against the Georgetown College Tigers on Friday afternoon. With the defeat, the Cavaliers fell to 0-3-0 on the season. The Tigers improved to 1-2-1 after the win.
The first half featured a busy performance from Montreat's
Adrian Torres, who made critical saves against multiple shots. Despite saves from Torres and a dangerous Cavalier corner kick, Georgetown scored the half's only goal in the 41st minute, giving the hosts a 1-0 lead. The Cavs' offensive efforts included shots from
Andres Saborio and
Ethan Grasso, but Montreat was unable to become level before the period concluded.
The second frame began with a flurry of activity. The Tigers doubled their lead in the 57th minute. Montreat responded as
Predrag Grbovic scored the first goal of the season for the Cavaliers in the 62nd minute. Grasso recorded the assist, narrowing the gap to just one goal. Later in the period,
Daniel Chavarria put a header attempt on goal from one of the five Montreat corner kicks in the second half. Ultimately, Georgetown expanded its lead with two more goals, concluding the match with a 4-1 triumph.
Torres totaled seven saves in net for the visitors. Grbovic contributed offensively by scoring the lone goal from his sole shot on target. Grasso provided an assist and had one shot on goal as well. Saborio tallied two shots on goal in the contest while Chavarria,
Jared McCall and
Josiah Garrett each registered one shot on target.
"Today's performance may be one of the most disappointing during my time at Montreat," said head coach
Michael Bruce. "We will be looking to make major changes before our next game in order to move in the right direction."
Looking ahead, the Cavaliers will travel to Fayetteville, N.C. for their next matchup against the Methodist University Monarchs. The match is set for Wednesday, Sept. 3, at 6 p.m.
