National qualifiers unveiled for outdoor track & field

KANSAS CITY, Mo.— The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) unveiled its accepted qualifiers for the upcoming 2025 U.S. Marines NAIA Outdoor Track & Field Championships late Wednesday morning. According to the organization's release, the Cavaliers are slated to compete in three events on the men's side and five events on the women's side.

A trio of Montreat men's track & field members are headed to Indiana next week to represent the Cavs on the national stage. Ryan Stade qualified for both the 5000m and 10k events thanks to the ninth- and 12th-fastest times, respectively, among the listed participants. He'll be joined in one of those events by Ethan Stamey, who notched the 11th-quickest 5000m time among the qualifiers. Meanwhile, Wyatt Wilson has his eyes set on the 5000m race walk with the 19th-best time.

Nine Cavalier women landed berths to the national meet next week. Five of those Montreat women's track & field athletes—Anna Baugh, Yessenia Castellanos, Macy Parks, Emily Standifer and Brooke Wiebe—are lined up as potential participants in the 4x800m relay. The Cavs enter the preliminary round of the event with the 11th-fastest time.

Jessica Gakeri was the lone Montreat athlete to qualify for a field event. The Winston-Salem, N.C. native owns the fourth-best triple jump mark in 2025.

Dylan Garcia, Heather Murphy and Ali Ray round out the list of national qualifiers for the Cavaliers. Garcia holds the sixth-quickest 1500m time among those competing, while Ray has the 16th-fastest 10k showing. Like Stade, Murphy secured a spot in both the 5000m and the 10k. Murphy possesses the top 10k effort this year and the fourth-best 5000m time.
