Cavs close out 2025 season against Tigers

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.— Montreat's women's lacrosse team played in the first round of the Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) Tournament on Thursday against the (RV) Georgetown College Tigers. The third-seeded Tigers pounced on the sixth-seeded Cavs early and often, winning the first-round matchup by a score of 30-2.
 
In the early going of the first quarter, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-0 lead with just over five minutes gone. Georgetown (10-7) ultimately scored nine in the quarter. Montreat had two shots, both of which were on target in the period. Grace Wiegand and Marley Smith had the shots. Montreat's goalie, Tayah Quinn, had two saves in the frame.
 
In the second period, the Tigers continued their scoring with another nine goals. The bright spot in the quarter happened with 2:03 left prior halftime. Ruthann Stout netted her fifth goal of the season when the Cavaliers had a three-on-one opportunity offensively. Smith gave Stout a great pass, and she fired a shot into the upper corner. Quinn made three more saves in the second. The Cavs went into halftime trailing 18-1.
 
After the intermission, Wiegand scored the second goal for Montreat with 7:35 left in the third quarter. She found the net for her 31st goal of the season. The Tigers also put seven more goals past Quinn in the frame. She made another two saves in the third.
 
The Montreat defense held the Tigers to just five goals in the concluding period. Montreat didn't score in the frame and had one shot that was saved. The final score resulted in a Georgetown win, 30-2.
 
Individually, Wiegand and Stout scored the only two goals for the Cavs. Smith assisted Stout's effort. Quinn made a total of nine saves on the day. Four Cavaliers tied for the most ground balls with two apiece. Wiegand, Smith and Anna White were all tied with a team-high three draw controls. Addie Briscoe led the Cavs with two caused turnovers.
 
Montreat had five shots, all of them on target. They collected 10 ground balls as a team and racked up 10 draw controls as well. The Cavaliers turned over the ball 21 times and had five caused turnovers defensively.
 
The Cavaliers concluded their 2025 season with a 0-13 record overall and a 0-5 record in AAC play.
