MONTREAT, N.C.— The Montreat women's tennis team hosted its penultimate matchup of the regular season Wednesday afternoon when it welcomed the North Carolina A&T State University Aggies to town. Going head-to-head against an NCAA Division I program, the Cavaliers ultimately suffered a 4-1 defeat, and their record fell to 3-12 in the process.
N.C. A&T (7-6) took both contested doubles battles to lead early on, 1-0. With just two matches on the docket, the Aggies claimed the top bout, 6-3, and the second clash, 6-1.
Chiharu Ito kept her singles winning streak going with a two-set sweep of her opposition on the No. 2 court. The freshman cruised during the initial frame, 6-1, before securing the triumph with a tight second set, 7-6 (7-2). Ito has now won five consecutive matches in singles play.
The visitors managed to win the other three contested singles matchups, eventually leading to their 4-1 win.
Clara Roman won six games on the third court, while
Ainhoa Ordonez captured four games in the top slot.
Annika Rojas came away victoriously in two games across her two sets played.
Montreat is back in action on April 3 for its Appalachian Athletic Conference (AAC) and regular season finale versus the No. 7-ranked Tennessee Wesleyan University Bulldogs. Start time in Montreat, N.C. is yet to be announced.
